Instant File Name Search is a free file search utility for both PC and network, and is much more powerful than the standard Windows option.

Its speed is based on a previous scan of the whole hard drive, which works to index the content, and from there it can do the searches you ask for much more quickly than if it had to scan the whole PC every time.
